Abu Galum, located north of Dahab, is a pristine and remote dive site renowned for its vibrant coral gardens and diverse marine life. Accessible primarily by camel trek or boat, this unique location offers divers a serene and off-the-beaten-path experience.
The dive starts on a sandy slope that gently drops to about 30 meters, revealing steep coral walls and abundant life. Expect sightings of jacks, trevallies, moray eels, and perhaps a cruising turtle. The crystal-clear water and minimal diver traffic make Abu Galum a hidden gem for photographers and nature lovers alike.
Because of its remote nature, Abu Galum is typically visited as part of a day trip or overnight safari, often combining diving with a Bedouin-style desert experience. There are limited facilities on site, so plan ahead and bring everything needed for a comfortable and safe trip.
Ideal conditions are in the morning when currents are mild and visibility is high. While accessible to all certified divers, a local dive guide is recommended to ensure safe navigation of the site's walls, overhangs, and coral plateaus.
